Cal’s folky brand of slide blues is quite simply beautiful. It’s an escape to sit and listen to cal’s high lonesome voice drift over his deceptively intricate slide guitar and finger picking.  Late last year my wife and I spent two weeks driving around New Zealand’s South Island and Cal’s last album – Morning Star – provided our soundtrack. enough said!

As one of our signature slide artists, Cal has spruiked, pumped and quite simply been a snake oil salesman with his signature slide on a weekly basis for many months. His on-stage banter will often drift onto the topic of his treasured Stobie Slide. Thanks Cal!

However you say it, you can’t beat a cobalt blue glass slide. word.

We’ve scoured Australia looking for a regular supply of blue glass bottles with a neck suitable for making slides. And after about 8 months of looking we found the mother load. and to top things off the factory who uses the bottles is literally 500m away from the slide workshop so we have an unlimited supply.

OK. The stats. The bottles have necks that go all the way up. These are the longest straight-necked glass bottles that we use. They are so long that we haven’t even bothered measuring them. We’re talking at least 120mm. What we’re trying to say is that length is not a problem. If you’ve got a need for a 100mm long slide this is your baby.

OK. The bottles have a slight but straight taper. Over the entire length of the neck it tapers from an 18mm internal diameter at the skinny end right through to 21mm. This gives us two choices: make a slide using the skinny end or make a slide using the fat end.

Skinny end blue slides have a tapering internal diamter of 18mm to 20mm.

Fat end blues slides have a tapering internal diameter of 21mm-19mm.

The blue glass is heavy and really hard which means you get plenty of volume out of these guys. Tone is a lot sharper and spankier than what you get out of  the mellower green, brown and yellow glasses.

So if you’re looking for a sexy slide with serious tone then look no further. I personally guarantee that you will get laid using this slide. That’s a rock solid Stobie & Co. covenant.

Ahhhhh. What a little bewdy. These cobalt blue slides are cut from bulbous blue bottles we get from a little Italian liquer company in Mile End.

The blue glass is heavy and really hard which means you get plenty of volume out of these guys. Tone is a lot sharper and spankier than what you get out of  the mellower green, brown and yellow glasses.

The bottles have a slight but straight taper so internal diameter comes in two sizes: 21mm-19mm and 18mm-20mm

Length is an easy one. The necks of the bottles are approx. 90mm long so you can go as long or short as you like.

Simply fill out the requisite details and we’ll get busy in the workshop crafting your new cobalt blue slide.

Well maybe you need a make-over.  Stobie Style.

The first thing you need to do is look cool, hip and generally smokin’. The only was to be all these things is by wearing a certified Stobie T-shirt.  There is absolutely no other way to achieve your goal.

These little puppies are all made using 100% organic cotton tees that are made under FAIR TRADE conditions which means that mother earth and her children are not exploited through the whole manufacturing process, from growing the cotton to sewing the sleeves.

Once we get our hands on a batch of blank tees we then print each one individually using handcarved block prints. This is a seriously old skool technique that produces prints that look aged, worn and weary.

This a a sure fire way to get you some action.

Two to choose from.  First is the original STOBIE SUNRISE design which features the slide workshop in the foreground with a firey sunrise out the back. The second design is the Green Glass Blues. These are made with the same prints used to make the covers for the 7″ soundtrack for the documentary ‘Green Glass Blues’ (which isn’t finished yet)….

All you need to do is tell us how long your slide needs to be and how ‘big’ the hole is where you stick your finger.  We’re pretty wank-ish here at Stobie so we call the ‘hole’ the ‘internal diameter’.  Measuring the internal diameter is easy. Either measure across the top of the inside of a slide you already have or grab a ruler and measure the width of your sliding finger. Easy. If you like it snug then you’ll be cool. If you like your slide a little loose then add a millimeter or two.
